River Tweed
Tour the Yard as it was in 1970 Looking towards the river from above the Shore Gate on Berwick's Quay Walls there is little to indicate that shipbuilding once flourished on a site that has now been given over to car parking. Today's scene contrasts with what the visitor would have encountered in 1970 when this compact riverside location in the shadow of the town’s famous Elizabethan ramparts was alive with activity. The scenes that would have been encountered within the yard were captured in a series of photos taken by a former employee. By taking the ‘virtual tour’ it is possible to get a sense of just how busy the yard during one of the most successful periods in it's history following the revival of shipbuilding on the site in 1950.
